Quiet your mind and wake up your feet. Just a few minutes surfing stick in your backyard will transform your life and feel like play.
In Qi Gong, “qi” is vital energy: something you grow and harness from within. Think relaxed strength, loose stance, and the pleasure of feeling at home in your own skin.
We’re a lot like trees. Our toes are our roots. Shift from one foot to the other—notice how your ankles, hips and torso respond? The tiniest of movements in our roots become conversation throughout the whole body.
One way to explore this is with a PVC pipe, so if you already have one, you don’t need anything to get started. If you’re like me and enjoy some style, then search for a sick stick. I like the one pictured because it’s smooth and soft underneath the soles of my feet.
Like any good instrument, there’s variety. I’m on a quest for a handmade bamboo pipe to surf in the backyard. If you’d like me to include you on my order, then , enter your name and phone number, and I’ll keep you updated.
Now, once you have your weapon of choice, lay it on the ground, close your eyes, and imagine you’re surfing. This is where the magic happens. Turn on your core, pull up your pelvic floor, breathe out, open your diaphragm, pull down on your toes, and look straight ahead—you’re barreling down the pipe of consciousness into a new reality.
Feel the energy tingle in your feet, simmer in your sacrum, snake up your spine, and shine through your crown. Relax your shoulders, jaw and eyebrows. Let go.
YOGIS: pay attention → cycle through your postures.
